Dear Friends,
I hope you are having a good week. Most of you know I was in Norway the last 11 days. It was a great trip and I met many wonderful people! There were many beautiful places. Many of our members and friends have relatives in Norway, so for those of you who have been, you know what a wonderful place it is. It’s good to be back in Minnesota, and home again. It will be good to see you this coming Sunday, June 5, for the celebration of Pentecost. If you are planning on worshipping in person, remember to wear red.
This coming Saturday morning, June 4, we have the Janet Mattson funeral service. Visitation is at 10:00am, and the service is at 11:00am. Jan was a long time and very active member of Peace Lutheran.
We have started some of the quiet days of summer, and yet, as usual, we have exciting things happening here at Peace. The Peace Community Garden is up and running. We are so excited to be hosting our summer gardeners. Be sure to take some walks out on the property and greet our gardeners.
Next month, you will notice we are re-furbishing one of the building walls which will be rocked. The bricks that were in such need of tuck-pointing will be rocked over. We think you will love the new look. It will change the look on that side of the building, but we believe it will look amazing. Let us know what you think once the project is complete. Many thanks to our benefactor, Jan Dubats, as she is funding the project in memory of her husband, William Charles Dubats Jr.
As you know, our current Office Manager, Debbie Clipson, is retiring at the end of June. Debbie has been our Office Manager for the last 18 years, and we have been blessed by her work and dedication for all of those years. We are sad to see her go, but happy for her to be retiring and beginning a new life journey. We will celebrate Debbie with a cake and coffee reception following worship on Sunday, July 17. Please join us for worship at 10:00am, and then for the reception to follow. If you are unable to attend, please mail your cards and well wishes to the Church Office and we will have them for her on the 17th.
Our new Office Manager, Julie Barthels, will join our staff on Monday, June 27. She will train with Debbie on the 27th-29th. Julie begins with us on Monday, July 11. Please stop in the office beginning the week of July 11 to welcome Julie to the Peace Community. Julie comes to us from another ELCA Lutheran Church and has experience in Church Office Management. She will be a wonderful addition to the staff and to our congregation!
Summer means travel for many of us. Please keep Peace Lutheran in mind as you are away this summer. You are invited to join the “Cabin Campaign”. In this stewardship journey, those of us who know we have scheduled vacations, trips and times at the cabin, taking us away from worship at Peace this summer, are asked to please consider making an additional financial gift to Peace. The suggested donation is $500. If you join the campaign, let me know by text, email, or cell call. We have done an excellent job of managing a strong financial footing, and we want to carry that trend throughout the summer months, so this fall, as programs and expenses increase, we are ready to meet the challenge.
Office hours remain the same over the next two weeks: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 8:30-Noon. Please use these times to drop off offerings and Food Shelf donations. Thank you for your continued gifting.
Food Shelf needs include: canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter and jelly/jams, boxed oatmeal, spaghettio’s and ravioli, and kid friendly soups and snacks. Thank you!!!
In the next few days, I will be reaching out to those of you who have volunteered to host Casa De Oracion, the Hispanic congregation, who hopes to begin worship in our building on Sunday, July 24. We are still detailing some of the arrangements, and once they are finalized, we will get our hosts calendared.
