Pastor Valerie’s Weekly Update
Dear Friends,
Thank you to everyone who volunteered for the Trunk or Treat event! We had a beautiful evening and great conversations as we met and greeted our guests. Thank you to those of you who donated candy. It was well received! Next year Halloween is on a Tuesday evening and we hope to have an even bigger turn out of parked cars!
As Thanksgiving comes closer, we are planning our holiday baskets. Thank you for your ongoing food donations. Please keep us in mind as you shop. We would appreciate boxed stuffing, canned fruits and vegetables, boxed oatmeal packets, cereal, canned meats, boxed pastas. I’ll have a better count on each item for my email next week.
Even as we think about our Thanksgiving basket ministry, we are already keeping our Christmas ministry in mind too. We will continue to appreciate your gracious food donations throughout the holiday season. For Christmas baskets, we are planning gift cards for our families again this year. If you would like to provide a gift card for families to purchase Christmas gifts for their children, we suggest Target and Walmart. I’ll collect the cards along with some of the other items that are being donated and these will be placed in the Christmas holiday food baskets for our members and friends. We cannot thank you enough for all of your support of our holiday ministry needs!!
This Sunday is our celebration of All Saint’s Day. We remember our loved ones who have entered eternal rest and all our members and friends who have died this last year. We hope to see you on Sunday! The Men of Peace will be hosting a pancake breakfast before and after worship, please join us for a delicious breakfast! If you purchased rose(s) in memory of a loved one, you may take your rose(s) following the worship service. We will also have them available for you on Monday to pick up. I will take the unclaimed roses on Tuesday to Morningside Memorial Gardens and put them on the graves of our members and friends.
Please continue to sign up to host and/or help with refreshments on Sunday mornings or assist with Holy Communion. Signup sheets are on the bulletin board by the Fellowship Hall entry way by the church office or call Julie in the office. Thank you for your help! If there are any middle and high school students who would like to assist in worship, please contact me. I would love to have the young people do some of the readings, prayers or help serve communion.
Wednesday, November 16, is Give to the Max Day. We are encouraging our members and friends who desire to participate in Give to the Max to go to the Peace Lutheran website and make your special financial gifts there. Give to the Max website charges a minimal fee for every gift and the Peace website has no fee.
As our “Building for the Future” stewardship campaign continues, I hope you are prayerfully considering your financial giving and gifting. Our newsletter outlined some of our hopes and dreams for the coming year! This is an exciting time for our congregation. I have to admit that I’m very excited for our ministry together in these coming weeks!
